"A gathering of flowers"
I am Madalina Ungureanu, aka florilegiu.m, born in the spring of '98. In 2025 I completed my studies at the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts.
Florilegiu comes from Latin and means a gathering of flowers. From early childhood, spending long periods in the countryside at my grandparents’ home, I inherited a deep love for plants and the land, a love passed down from my grandfather. Whenever I was with him in the fields or the garden, I felt a strong sense of permanence and grounding. Time seemed to stand still, and my existence narrowed to a direct connection between myself and nature.
This is how the desire to preserve flowers and plants, the ones I found and gathered from my grandfather’s garden, was born. I pressed them between the pages of books and newspapers, trying to keep their memory alive: the memory of a moment, or a feeling, that I might never experience again. Working with dried and pressed plants, I feel as though I am stopping time and passing this precious sensation on to the viewer through my work.
