I am Ungureanu Mihai, born in Moldova in 1991. My passion for art originated at the age of 10, when I began my artistic studies – a path I have never strayed from.
I graduated from the "Igor Vieru" Art High School in Chisinau, the place where I experienced the most intense period of artistic training and development. There, the connection with nature and the direct observation of the reality that was to be transposed onto the canvas played an essential role. Oil painting became my favorite language, especially thanks to the numerous open-air creative sessions, held in the villages of Moldova, in old houses, full of history and character. This experience helped me to deeply understand who I am as an artist and what style defines my vision – a style clearly outlined after over 24 years of working with oil paint.
Although I grew up on the old streets of Chisinau, my connection with the Moldovan village was formed during high school, during my artistic practice in the rural area. There I felt an authentic attraction to tradition, to cultural roots and to the values that define us as a nation. I firmly believe that only through a deep knowledge of our identity we can remain whole and spiritually anchored.
My works reflect this love for Romanian culture, for traditional clothes and for the sacred relationship between man and nature. Although I have chosen oil painting as my main means of expression, my style is strongly influenced by graphics, through traditional ornaments carefully integrated into the compositions of my creations. I like to unite the past with the present, the traditional with the modern, addressing themes that, unfortunately, tend to get lost.
This is how my most important collections and exhibitions, organized in Moldova, were born, inspired by objects from childhood, from family, from nature. I believe that these themes – identity, tradition and the relationship with nature – are inexhaustible and always current.
